Kareena Kapoor's Wedding Outfit is a Bespoke Piece by Ritu Kumar
Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan's
wedding is the most talked about event right now. First there was much
speculation about the date - it's apparently on October 16, even though
Kareena has been resolutely mum on the issue - and then the venue.
Places like Casablanca and the Maldives were mentioned before venues
like Pataudi Palace. Now it's time to figure out what the bride will
wear.
Kareena Kapoor's wedding outfit is a recreation of mother-in-law Sharmila Tagore's wedding joda and has been designed by Ritu Kumar.
What Kareena Will Wear
The designer tells us she has updated the traditional Farshi pajama-kurta, presented to Sharmila by her own mother-in-law, Begum Sajida Sultan of Bhopal, who wore it for her wedding in 1939, to fit Kareena.
"We had to redo the Farshi pajama, because the ones created earlier were actually a cross between a gown and a pajama and came with a trail that the bride had to carry, or have someone carry. Also, they were designed around the one size fits concept, so the new design has been tailored to fit Kareena better," says Kumar, who researched Indian royal style and even photographed the Pataudi women for her book Costumes & Textiles Of Royal India.
She says she sourced the fabric - a peachy pink that is as similar to the original as possible - from weavers in Benares. The weave was created in-house at Kumar's studio and then woven by local artisans. Then, it took a little more than four months for two families of master craftsmen to finish the zardozi work. "About 100 years ago, great emphasis was placed on stitches and their use on three dimensional surfaces. There was no bling in those days. So it was quite a challenge to recreate the outfit, contemporizing it, and yet making sure it stays true to the aesthetic of the family history."
A rust and gold tissue dupatta with an avocado gote at the hem - the original was simply repaired - completes the look.
Kumar adds that Kareena knew that she was going to be wearing a heritage piece and hopes that she will pass her own wedding outfit down to the next generation.
Kumar is also dressing Saif's sisters Soha and Sabah. While Soha will wear a peach woven lehnga and odhni to one event, she will also wear a red Farshi pajama that had been designed for Deepa Mehta's Midnight's Children; Sabah will wear a gold and white Farshi pajama from Kumar's Falaknuma collection.

It's a Baby Girl for Akshay Kumar & Twinkle Khanna
Mr. Khiladi became a father for the second time this morning with wife Twinkle Khanna. Twinkle gave birth to a baby girl at the Breach Candy Hospital here in Mumbai.
Akshay and Twinkle already have a nine-year-old son named Aarav. The actor who is currently busy with promotions of his upcoming film Oh My God, was in Jaipur when he got a call last evening, and rushed back home immediately. Twinkle had a normal delivery and both the mother and daughter are doing fine.

Vote: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan vs Shweta Nanda in Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla
On the completion of 25 years in the fashion industry, designer duo Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla unveiled their book India Fantastique at Antilla, the residence of Nita and Mukesh Ambani, last Saturday. We spotted the beautiful Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as well as her sister-in-law Shweta Bachchan Nanda at the event wearing colourful Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla outfits.
Ash chose a black maxi with bright orange, yellow and green embroidery that seemed a little too loud and overpowering. Contrasting to her, sister-in-law Shweta looked elegant in this white lehenga with colourful embroidery.

PCJ Delhi Couture Week 2012: Glamorous Showstoppers
The recently-concluded PCJ Delhi Couture Week saw some new faces on
the ramp, in fact some older actresses from Bollywood. We saw Madhuri
Dixit-Nene, Sridevi and yesteryear actress Sharmila Tagore strutting
down the ramp at the fashion extravaganza.
Madhuri Dixit-Nene walked the ramp in a dazzling lehenga choli complete with a red dupatta and red vermillion for designer Anju Modi. We think she looked lovely.
Making a comeback on screen as well as the ramp was the beautiful Sridevi. Clad in a Sabyasachi sari and a heavily embroidered full-sleeved blouse, Sridevi took many by surprise!
Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore looked as elegant as ever in an Ashima-Leena creation. That bright orange sari and the transparent jacket made the Kashmir Ki Kali actress stand out on the ramp! We just love the glow on her face :)
Last but not the least, Bollywood's latest sensation Katrina Kaif made an entry in a stunning Manish Malhotra lehenga choli at the Delhi Couture Week. Wondering why the actress forgot to smile on the ramp.
Who is your favourite showstopper from the Delhi Couture Week? Leave us a comment and let us know.

Priyanka gets her first Tattoo
B-town celebrities certainly have a thing for tattoos! From Deepika Padukone and Esha Deol to Hrithik Roshan and his wife Suzanne, our celebrities have gone out to get themselves inked at various occassions. The latest to join the bandwagon is our very own Piggy Chops! It seems B-town actress Priyanka Chopra got herself inked on her wrist a couple of days ago.
PC's tattoo, which says 'Daddy's Li'l Girl' is all about expressing her love for her father, Dr Ashok Chopra. Sweet, isn't it?
What do you think about Priyanka's new tattoo? Leave us a comment and let us know.
